USS Razorback

Natchez, MS/Vidalia, LA

The 312-foot World War II submarine, USS Razorback, travels upriver on it's journey to a new home in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The submarine took part in the surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945 in Tokyo Bay. It was awarded 5 battle stars for action in World War II and 4 battle stars for action in Vietnam and was decommissioned in 1970.

The 7,000 mile voyage began May 5th in Istanbul, Turkey after the Turkish government agreed to sell the vessel to North Little Rock for $1.00.

This is a superb image, and a happy ending to a glorious story.

A lot of people are glad she's home. There's only a few left. I served on a sister boat in the 50's.

Hi Sher,
This is the sub my husband watched being pushed through New Orleans while we were at a conference. He told me I missed a great shot and I certainly did!

Interesting and a bit strange that Turkey owned the USS Razorback. I guess we sold it to them?
