Homeless man and his tin

Circular Quay

I tried this image in mono but decided to put a tad colour back into it. I think that it works!

Fabulous capture.

Powerful image. While I'm sure straight black and white works, I'm glad you only partly desaturated it. Somehow it expresses a little different dynamic. Voted.

Hi Sheila,

This tweaking with the image that works with so many subjects that allow artistic and formalist treatments, here, is a sure way to plastify the reality. I would think that here, the empathy that could be awaken for a fellow human being is done with (we can pretend of course), from the distance created by your intent to change what you saw. This is not a candid, but a S. Smart's creation. Perfectly valid, but i am not sure if you intend to show us what you see or what you create. I think the distinction matters, maybe i am alone. Much cordially, you are in any case, an inspiration.

Wonderful Sheila. Natural, candid and very truthful. Voted... ian

The black and white would be an obvious indication of his dire circumstance. The slight colorization forces us to realize he is real in the here and now - not a figure from the murky past.

I agree that color is better. I have mixed feeligns about taking pictures of the homeless, but this works for me.
