A beautiful and very impressive portrait. Its as if Rodney is looking directly at your life and judging you against his own. Voted

Thanks Niall. He is sorely missed as he was one of my favourite subjects as well as being a friend.
Cheers

Perhaps my favourite from this series. The way his head is pulling away while still looking at you, the colour range, that marvellous headband and his slightly disapproving expression make it, but also the sense of closeness: there are no distracting elements in this photo: just him and the viewer.

HI Sheila,
Your pictures are very dramatic and evocative, but one of them wrenched my heart. I spent three most amazing days in Sydney busking with Rodney-playing the sticks. I was on my way back to India after a shoot in Fiji and I decided to stop by in Sydney. We struck a very intense friendship in those few days and soon I was playing the sticks for him. I have often wanted to visit Australia again and maybe travel with him...
What happened to Rodney..
he is still infront of me pissed off at those who wanted to video tape his music and so generous with the children coming off the ferries at Circular quay...I still have the one dollars (my share of the days busking ) which I would take from the day's spoils.
Tony, an American digi player would often join in so would Phil (jazz guitar) and Tim (on the jew harp)
May he rest in peace.
Anyways that is how life is: Everything changes- to move is the essense.
Happy dream time Rodney.

Stunning image Sheila. I'm guessing that Rodney was one of the buskers that used to hang out the front of wharf number 4 at Circular Quay? Very cool music. If I had found your gallery a week ago I might have dropped by Avalon to have a look..... next time:-) Hope it went well. Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Carol. Rodney was published in an Australian digital photography magazine. Its certainly one of my favourite shots. And it reminds me that the 300 f/4 L IS is worth every cent!

Cheers

I keep coming back to this picture! One of the most dramatic shots I have seen on Pbase! Thanks for sharing it with us all.

Thanks Trisha. I live in Sydney (where else is there to live in Godsown!). I used to live in Toronto (for ten years) when I discovered that Sydney doesn't really have a winter. Wouldn't live anywhere else! You'll love it. Contact me when you get here, if you are heading for Sydney.

Cheers
