This is the beach where fifteen year old surfer, Andrew Lindop, was attacked by a shark leaving him with injuries to his leg. He was assisted out of the water by his father, a fellow surfer. The beach was closed for the rest of the day but surfers were back out there the next day. Although Australia has a reputation for shark attacks, this was the first shark attack at Avalon (where I live) for many, many years. The last fatal shark attack in Sydney Harbour occurred in the early 1960s. The last fatal car crash in Australia was probably ten minutes ago.
