We turned around from the distant Glen Canyon from the east to see the Grand Canyon in the south. The drive toward north rim of Grand Canyon started at the alpine country at the junction Lake Jacob. The weather was just delight in the 70F, contrary to Utah’s. We headed south on vast meadows and distance forests. There were deers, and some bison at a distance, which became a road hazard at twilight when more of them gathered in groups gazing nearby the road and easily crossed into traffic.
The road led our vehicle straight into the parking lot of Grand Canyon Lodge. Where were the canyons? The majestic canyons around were blocked by walls of pine trees from the road. One must went through the hotel lobby to have access to the rim, and its small, narrow walkways on the left and right of the hotel. We stayed here most of the time.
In order to view the majestic canyon below, one must go back out and follow the road to the east for 20 miles to Wallala overlook, and other locations nearby. We came late in the afternoon, thus did not make to the overlook as the sun was setting down.
Very nice! These capture the serenity of the North Rim, which is less crowded than the South Rim, where I will be in time for dinner tonight. Both rims have wonderful old turn-of-the century lodges with a flavor you have captured well. Thanks for sharing.
