This is a moderate walking trail to get to the colorful McLeod Lake. The trail begins at the "Mammoth Pass" sign at Horseshoe Lake from a big parking lot. The area had many dead trees due to carbon monoxide gas released from underground. There was precaution about its silent danger if one felt lightheaded then the area was high in the gas concentration, IMG_7356.JPG.
The trail had somewhat snow remaining in early June, the trail disappeared at some places and reappeared again. At 1/2 mile, the left fork lead south to McLeod Lake. There was no soul on the trail before noon time as we started to hike. We reached the lake in less than half an hour, the landscape opened up to a spectacular mountain lake. Here it was, a fisherman took time to do away of his fishing line, so far no fish for him which could be caught but must be released.
A couple reached to the lake shortly after us, then a young family with kids walking with their parents! These young kids hiked without fear. Everyone took their favorite place and enjoyed the scenery, they kept their world away from each others and had the solace of nature to themselves.
One could whistle and hear the mountains echoing back.
The air was very fresh and pristine. Silence! Only air rustling through the trees.
