ALTERED COURSE

Me being a trooper, I decided I was going to get a Rockefeller Center skating rink shot for you guys. The only problem is that I had to stand in line behind several rows of people and wait. After watching tourist after tourist take that very shot, by the time I got as close as I am here, I had decided that there was NO WAY I was going to take that shot. So this is what I came up with. For those of you who must have a shot of the skating rink, that is what is on the woman's camera in front of me. :-)

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5
1/100s f/3.2 at 11.8mm iso100 full exif

Your choice to focus on crowd is essential here.
Gives a feel of space and accents additional meaning.
Successful shot, Kent!

I like her fingers..GREAT capture...

Superb capture. :) And that is such a long queue of people wants to skate. :)
I also find that 3 fingers of the woman quite a bit funny. It's like her camera is sooo dirty that she doesn't want to hold her camera. hehe!
Anyway your effort paids off with this great shot you made. :) Gets my vote~ :)

Quite creative solution.

Been there, done that - multiple times! We were just there 2 weeks ago, and it was a ZOO! The crowds were silly. But of course, being a frequent visitor, i already have my obligatory rink shot - so I people-watch when I'm there! I applaud your variety and choice of comp!

Good try and a very nice candid. Sheila used the word I chose: madhouse.

I'm happy to do without an ice shot for something as good as this background. It's so sharp & colourful !

awww...surely you did take that shot!?! after waiting that long!?!?
i kinda like this shot anyway...though i can't decide whether i like the way it is or whether if the woman's camera in focus ant the bg less in focus?? :)

I like the focal choice, showing the insane crowds at left and the residual holiday decoration. Nicely done.
