Haaaa.. the texture and modeling of large format.
daring composition, only such "character" can handle this kind of consciously unbalanced framed and win over the sky. v.

A foto that blows away all the rules of portraiture that I have just learned on my course...Love it..:>

Kal, stunning portrait. I love your composition here, and I really agree with everyone about how memorable this portrait is. Really beautiful job, Kal.

Beside the fantastic play with blur and DOF, what I like is this "anti" framing, this inverted hairy head bottom up behind your subject, and the vertical balance, full of sky, that for some reason give me the impression that he is a giant, and you were too short to be facing him.

I've been waiting for a portrait like this.
His face really has it - a humble giant of a man!
I find it fascinating and sometimes frustrating that people are so different, so varied and yet so few become memorable portraits. I can't define why but you know when youre taken by a face, as I am with this one. And I agree with Phil I could meet this man in the flesh ten years from now and knw exactly where I saw hime before.

A visage hard to forget, Kal. His smile seems at odds with his strangeness. You do here what Arbus did so well in her uncompromising portraiture -- in offering this image to us, you ask us to look into a mirror and see some of ourselves as well.
