I am fully in agreement with Jenene and wish I could have put it like that myself. I'm thrown every time I see these by the depth; it seems central to the appeal of these photographs to a lot of other people as well, judging by the comments I've read on them.
My brain seems to be constantly telling me something 'shouldn't' look a certain way while viewing them, and that's why I think words like 'dreams', 'memories', 'reality' and 'unreality' keep cropping up - it's the brain's way of making sense of what the eyes see on screen; I almost feel like my brain is hardwired to make me think in those terms when looking at these. But - the strange thing about that is the settings and people in the photos are very much "real". I hope that makes sense!
It's a wonderful portrait and I feel the same as Kaden in that there is a strong relationship between the two that you can read through the photo.
