Excellent, I love the composition. Very interesting explanation of the red dot, I wonder if this eye was also closed when you took the foto..:>ote

This child, apparently not thrilled to be there, looks even smaller on that big sidewalk/pavement/street. I agree with Duncan about the street and the wall, the dirt, plants growing between the bricks, peeling paint, etc. . It adds so much reality to the scene.

Another great shot Kal. I particularly like the inclusion of the second chair.. leaves a lot to the imagination. KMc

Wonderful image, Kal, composition and mood are great.
He seems to be in meditation.
He might as well be sad, lonely. Or only waiting for somebody.

Every photographer should have the "third eye" like you have, Kal... ;-))

Thanks for the explination Kal. I have seen this on women but never on a man or child. it is also more associated with India rather than China. It just confused me a bit.

You are also welcome. Always a pleasure to see your work.

Thanks Duncan! This is a summary of the "Bindi"- The dot has a mystical meaning. It represents the third eye of spiritual sight, which sees things the physical eyes cannot see. Hindus seek to awaken their inner sight through yoga. The forehead dot is a reminder to use and cultivate this spiritual vision to perceive and better understand life's inner workings to see things not just physically, but with the "mind's eye" as well. The bindi is made of red powder (called sindur, traditionally made from powdered turmeric and fresh lime juice), sandalpaste or cosmetics.

I do have to ask what the red mark is on the child's head. Is this much like how Catholics do Ash Wednesday or something else? Just curious. Also the sandals with socks are odd. I know a lot of kids that like doing this for some reason, and as well adults, but it is always strange to me. To me it is liike wearing a jumper to the beach on a 30+ c or 90+f day.

Also your colour street work bring credability to colour street photography unlike I have seen, other than Chris' and a few others here.

Red, the very essence of China. Perhaps it's an old part of China, but there's a young little boy and his mind affecting its future, and its now. The empty stool is inviting and hopefully someone who is willing to take good care of him and watch him grow would fill the seat... Very well seen.
