Wow, amazing contrast! I like the interpretation of AL too.

My eyes dwell from the skirt of the statue, to the plants underneath, to the wall, and then, as if he were there by accident, the man.
What also strikes me, is that a seemingly ordinary background is in fact a delicate play of lines, layers and textures, carefully arranged to bring out the statue and the man.
I find this a first class, top notch composition.

Superb! ... the comp is just perfect as well as the story your image tell to us. A great one.

But this is Lear, broken at last, stripped of all regalia, dreaming of faded glory. Bravo Kal!!!

You carry the statue/human incongruity off well, Kal. What makes it work so effectively is the contrast in the hand positions. Both heads look down and away, but you express incongruity by comparing differences in the hands. The man's hand is limp -- it sits upon a knee, lifeless and forlorn. The dancers hands are full of life and energy. It is almost as if she is willing him to get up off his butt and live by using those hands. Remember the statue/man shot you commented on in my incongruity gallery about a year ago? It made a different point, but look at how the hands of the statue and man unite to tell a story here:http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/45578128

I think it got to do with the way you brilliantly composed and juxtaposed. The lady standing tall and poised, looked right down at the old idle man. A chilling distance between them, of class and form. Perhaps it's not as bad as we chose to think. He could be a free undisturbed spirit while she's merely a lifeless statue. We don't see him looking up to her at all. Hmmm...

One young and lithe, the other old and stiff. One upright and hopeful, the hunched and defeated. Great shot, Kal.

well seen, Kal. the composition is fantastic, and the title is so apt. both figures are technically statues - the man's life is also cold and stopped still. (that sentence was really rubbish, i'm in inarticulate mode).
