The medium is the message here, I think; seeing what is in the eye of the photographer and none other.

this is so incongrous! they are in a photo booth, and you are the one with the camera taking the photo...yet they don't even know you are there and you can't see them. cleverly done! (i'm glad it says "photograph" in roman text too...i'd have a hell of a time trying to understand the chinese :) )

Kal, thank you for the explaination, I now understand this picture better. And the picture becomes more brilliant to me now. Two kind of feelings about having the picture taken.....You are a photographer, and they are not, pictures mean different things to three of you.

Wow, this is the kind of picture I like the most-----to be surprised after knowing the meanings. And you also found out new things from it on the second thought, that's self portrait is about....To discover yourself more and more...

I think this image was for me about my own problem with making a self-portrait. I have tried it, but in all cases I find myself self-concious, part of the image making process, not being myself. Vanity I guess is maybe applicable to the other two individuals in the image, because they are actively looking for their image. For me, I am not making a self portrait as such, but making a portrait of them, that makes me part of the image making process, but not the subject of it. That makes the self-portrait more me, no self conciousness....does that make sense? I called it art as faceless interaction because had my face not been covered up, I would have been self-concious, as I am always in front of camera. I guess there is an interesting incongruity in this image that I have just thought of...their vanity against my discomfort with my own image....Your request for my view has really helped me Jen, Thanks.

Very interesting, and very unusual way to do self portrait. Do you also see yourself in them? I don't really understand what Phil said about Vanity...
Do you want to share your thoughts on this picture Kal?

A very incongruous image, Kal. You abstract it well, too. And it certainly conveys human values: vanity, vanity, and vanity.
