Comfort, Shanghai March 2005

The passion of this kiss can't be over emphasised. He jus lent over and kissed her. Her look was one of concern. It was like he was offering instant comfort.

hmmm..... not enough here.

I absolutely understand the emotion that you are explaining with words but to me you are indeed being blinded by personal connection. This is easy to let happen. The foto itself does not transcend into something meaningful, something that makes universal impact and compels the viewer... it is one that others simply see "cute"...

Isolde Peisl's comment of "soo cute" is not what you want to hear. : ))

"Its the hand of the child that makes the image work as expression. That is what makes it incongrous."

I disagree.... the hand does nothing here....

I like this semi-sepia tone. Complements the sentimentality of the image.

Its the hand of the child that makes the image work as expression. That is what makes it incongrous. The abstraction comes through the close vantage point. But the biggest thing the image has going for it are the human values it expresses. Tenderness, love, kindness come from the older child. The emotion from the small child contrasts to it -- it is not reciprocal. Rather the younger child is looking at us, as if to wonder what is going on.

This is expressive to me Phil. It has incongruity and Human values and the B&W has created the abstraction...this image definitely does not work as well in colour. If you think it would serve the purpose I would gladly post the colour version. Am I being blinded by the personal connection? It is important to express you feelings through the image, but can that sometimes blind you to telling the story to others? Do others see what I see?
