Strength, Shanghai February 2005

Small but strong. She loves to dress up. Pretty is her favourite word.

Excellent portrait. I am drawn to the child's eyes which seem to hold an inexplicable maturity. I disagree that the expressiveness is absent or lacking. So much can be interpretted from a blank stare...

Another excellent analysis, Kal. I agree with everything you say. This is an excellent descriptive image of a child, a wonderful memory, too. It is an image made more for those who know the child than for an audience at large, who simply see it as very attractive portrait of a child, but are left with no emotional or imaginative connection.

Out of all the protarit images here, this is the one I thought was least expressive, though it has personal meaning to me. I don't think this image tells a story to anyone else. Nice for my album, but that is about it. It has little abstraction (does the colour red here represnt abstraction?), and the Blue/Red mixture is jarring/eye catching, but there is no obvious human value...though I see strength.
