Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning Province. Formerly known as Mukden it has a population well in excess of 6 million. It has been described as a gritty rustbelt city, but it seemed to me to be a vibrant energetic place, albeit under the same pall of smog that affected the other places we'd visited. Its touristic claims to fame were the former Imperial Palace (said to be second only to the one in Beijing) and the Ming Tombs.
