A large group of wild monkeys hang out at Southern tip of Ao Nang beach where the limestone cliffs meet the beach. They are attracted by many tourists who feed them. Unfortunately, a canal, or khlong as they are known in Thailand, dumps untreated waste water into the ocean at that end of the beach too. Throughout our journey in Thailand we observed many rancid khlongs that appeared to be dumping grounds for all sorts of garbage and human excrement. We started calling them "fetid khlongs" and thus we dubbed these "fetid khlong monkeys".
