Auxiliary Military Police

Auxiliary Military Police were organized during
the war years to provide external and internal protection
for war industries, plants, and transportation facilities
against acts of espionage, sabotage, and natural hazards.

Auxiliary Military Police units were established under State
and local control and engaged in different forms of sporting
competition between individuals and units.

The primary duties of the special police were to
check employee identification and visitors passes in sensitive
areas and to prevent the entry of unauthorized personnel into
areas vital to the war industry.

Several variations of insignia worn by the Auxiliary Military
Police exist as many such units were employed at particular
plants and wore shoulder patches made in colors which matched
their uniforms.

With the end of the war, the Auxiliary Military Police units
were disbanded.
