Just wanted to clarify the description of this patch. The unit was actually called the IX Engineer Command. There were three airborne engineer aviation battalions but the vast majority of battalions where not airborne. All members of the COmmand wore this same patch. The Command was formed in early 1944 in preparation for the Normandy invasion but this insignia was not issued until after D-Day. It was worn until 1946. As an aside, the triangular device (correctly identified as runways) was also used on all aviation engineer equipment and vehicles, usually painted on the bumper.
