The 21st Airborne Division insignia was approved
by the OQMG on August 3rd, 1944

The blue disc represents the Infantry, and the white
areas suggest clouds. The two lightning flashes at the
top along with the one flash at the bottom indicate the
unit's designation. It was noted that in addition to the
depicted design that the OQMG had approved a different
design for the 21st Infantry Division on August 5th, 1944, but
there is no record that this design was ever made into a patch.
