94th Infantry Division
(Pre WW II design).
The 94th Division pre-war design insignia was approved for
wear on September 12th, 1923, and is displayed because it
was not officially superseded until the new design was adopted.
At the time of the original approval, the division was allocated
to the Organized Reserves and consisted of units from
Massachusetts and the Puritan is representative of the history
and tradition of the area where the unit was located. When
Major General Harry Malony was notified that he was to command
the Division, he sent a representative to Washington to get the
patch changed as the general did not care for the "Puritan" design.
