35th

35th Infantry Division:
The Santa Fe Division.

When the U.S. entered WW II, the 35th Division was allocated
to the Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska National Guard and was
in training at Camp J.T. Robinson, Arkansas. After being
Federalized on December 23rd, 1940, the Division had two
changes of station and participated in the 1943,
Louisiana-Tennessee maneuvers before embarking for overseas
in May of 1944 for the European Theater

The shoulder patch worn by the 35th Division is based on a
WW I design approved by the AEF on October 29th, 1918. The
design was used on a series of symbols authorized by the
Division to be placed on "all property, both freight and
baggage" by General Orders dated March 27th, 1918. This
symbol was the basis for the shoulder patch and has for the
central design "a Santa Fe" cross which was a marker on the
old Santa Fe Trail and consisted of a white cross inside a
wagon wheel.
