17th Abn

17th Airborne Division:
Thunder from Heaven and Golden Talon Division.

The 17th Airborne Division was activated on April 15th, 1943,
with Headquarters at Camp Mackall, North Carolina, and was
assigned to the Airborne Command. After participating in the
Tennessee maneuvers and undergoing further training at Camp
Forrest, Tennessee, the Division embarked for the
European Theater in August of 1944.

The shoulder patch for the 17th Airborne Division was
approved by the OMG on February 8th, 1943. The golden yellow
eagle's talon represents striking and holding power, and the
black background suggests the ability of the unit to carry
out missions in the darkness of night. The 17th Airborne
Division is considered a different unit than the WW I 17th
Division and does not share its history.

Campaigns:
World War II
(Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe).
