7th

7th Infantry Division:
The Hourglass Division.

When the U.S. entered WW II, the 7th Division was assigned
to the Regular Army with Headquarters at Fort Ord, California.
After two changes of station, maneuvers at the Desert Training
Center, and special amphibious training, the 7th Division
left the United States in April of 1943 for Alaska.

The shoulder patch worn by the 7th Division is based on a
WW I design approved by the AEF on October 23rd, 1918.
The design was originally used as a baggage marker before
being adopted as the Division insignia. The Hourglass consists
of two number "7's" one "7" resting on another inverted "7" so
that no matter how the design was turned, the 7th comes out on top.
