The 2nd Airborne Infantry Brigade was activated on
June 30th, 1943, with Headquarters at Camp Mackall, North
Carolina, and arrived in the European Theater on January 8th,
1944. After receiving additional training in Northern Ireland,
the Brigade Headquarters was attached to the 82nd Airborne
Division, which was badly under strength. The two Regiments
that were originaly intended to form the Brigade were also
attached to Airborne Divisions with the 501st Regiment going
to the 101st Division and the 508th to the 82nd Division.
The shoulder patch worn by the 2nd Airborne Brigade was approved
on August 4th, 1944, and the two bayonets represent the unit's
number and also indicate that the organization is an Infantry
unit. The white area suggests the clouds and the airborne nature
of the unit as does the wavy line down the center while the blue
color is for Infantry.
The Brigade was inactivated in February of 1948 without the tab.
