11th Armored Division:
The Thunderbolt Division.

The 11th Armored Division was activated on August 15th, 1942,
with Headquarters at Camp Polk Louisiana, and had two changes
of station and also participated in the 1943 Louisiana maneuvers
and received desert training in California before embarking
for overseas in September of 1944.

"The Thunderbolt Division was cast" from a cadre of personnel
furnished by the 3rd, 7th and 8th Armored Divisions.
