75th

The 75th RCT was a Regular Army unit that
traces its lineage to Merrill's Marauders as the
Marauders were redesignated as the 475th Infantry
in May of 1944 and again redesignated as the 75th
Infantry and assigned to the 75th RCT in Okinawa
from October of 1954 to March of 1956 when the RCT
was inactivated. The insignia depicted was originally
designed by the U.S. Army Institute of Heraldry for
the 29th RCT but was assigned for use by the 75th in
November of 1954. The insignia was reinstated for the
29th from August of 1956 to May of 1957 but it is unknown
if the patch was worn during this time. The shape of the
patch is in the form of a shield to suggest combat readiness
and the crossed cannon and bayonet symbolize the unit's
readiness to fight if needed.
