Darwin was really my kind of town. Not a whole lot to do except go barhopping and sight seeing, but out in the middle of nowhere. There's some great outback access there, with Kakadu NP close by, the Kimberlies a little farther. As a history buff, I was also interested to walk around Darwin because its the first place I've ever been that actually saw WW2 combat.
Peacocks were common at the museum I visited
Brushtail possums inhabited the trees in Darwin. Tourists feeding them incited an ugly incident of bigotry I was sad to witness

Deck gun from the USS Peary, a destroyer sunk here in 1942
My father, James T. Weiss was killed on the Peary. I have been there and on the opposite side of the gun mount is the names of the 91 men who died that day. Thanks, James T. Weiss, JR. PE, F. NSPE.
