Langley Mill basin was once the meeting place of three canals, the Cromford Canal, the Erewash Canal and the Nottingham Canal.

The Erewash is still in use and a short section of the Cromford forms the majority of the basin itself but only a tiny stub of the Nottingham remains and 'Free Spirit' is moored on it.
