Trees Planted to Replace Ones Killed by Floodwaters

New Orleans City Park

Mature magnolia trees once lined this avenue leading to the New Orleans Museum of Art. Floodwaters that sat for many weeks smothered the roots and they died almost immediately.
Some 140 live oaks are being planted on either side of the avenue and single stem crepe myrtles will be planted in the median. All made possible by Rotary International. Thank you very much, Rotary.

This is shocking Coleen. I had no idea that the magnificent trees that lines this mall were killed. Given their massive size, I would surely have thought they managed to live. Very sad; they were truly beautiful.
