Ursuline Convent - Oldest Staircase in the Mississippi River Valley

Old Ursuline Convent on Chartres Street - New Orleans

Beginning in the 1740's Ursuline nuns walked these stairs for one hundred years. After they relocated to their plantation convent, bishops walked these stairs. Today it is a Museum.
Made of cypress planks hewn from the New Orleans area of first growth forests and bannisters hand forged, these stairs have withstood the feet of time.
