It Is Not Baghdad

New Orleans, Louisiana

Seventeen months after the floodwalls broke half a block from this street, Bellaire Drive, once one of the finest streets in New Orleans, still looks like this. Not one road in Lakeview has been repaired and there are no people living here. Indeed a disaster of mass proportions.

So much devastation, I can't believe the government has let this go so long.

And like the floodwaters it continues to recede from our memory. The same thing has happened here in Florida after Andrew and Charlie and the other storms of 04.
