Homeowners in Lakeview held a service at 9:45 a.m. today, exactly nine months since the floodwall on the 17th Street Canal gave way and flooded their houses. They tossed 1,577 flowers into the canal, one for each of the people who died in Hurricane Katrina. A similar ceremony was held in the Ninth Ward at the Industrial Canal floodwall.
Ironically, these flowers got caught in a cable of a barge belonging to the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
