Old Dickory

Jefferson, Louisiana

Thought to be at least 600 years old, this live oak was battered badly by the 12 hours of hurricane force winds of Katrina. Hopefully, it is making a comeback and with a little care will be around for a long time. It is under the stewardship of the people of Jefferson Parish and the Live Oak Society.

This one could tell some hair raising stories from that life span.

Incredible Oak, isn't it. Incredible too that its worst enemy was not even the hurricane, but greedy, thoughtless people (didn't they want to bulldoze this tree to build some complex or road?).

How great to see it protected and coming back. GMV for the pic and the caring!

Is this tree in the Metairie Playground? The fence looks familiar
