Home of the Brave

New Orleans City Park

I have always been the one with the baton leading "The Stars and Stripes Forever" and with my hand on my heart as the colors of the United States were presented. But, I am damn mad at the people who are "not" leading my country at the moment.
Workers have come from all over the United States to help clean up the devastation and trash left by Hurricane Katrina and the flood waters. This is a campground in City Park where so many of the workers live. The conditions are not the most sanitary and the sleeping conditions must surely be cold at night. While our governmentFEMA-is paying for thousands of lazy New Orleans citizens to live in luxury hotels and not work, these people who work 12 hard hours a day are living like this. And, bless their hearts, someone hoisted an American flag on a broken tree branch.
Many of the people in this location are American Indians from the western part of the United States. Oh, I forgot to mention, the workers are paying rent to live like this.
Our enemies in Iraq where we spend billions of dollars every week are living better than this. Shame, shame, shame on our government.

Coleen - I see them daily when I go feed the ducks and a little cat that was dumped in the back of the park in July. By some miracle, he made it through Katrina. He's feral...and I have him just about ready to be picked up. Some workers have stopped and talked to us--they can't even get much work or "licenses" to work because of the red tape and feelings against them. It's horrible after a rainstorm. Mosquitoes and trash make their lives unbearable. Yes, the real citizens of N.O. are sojourning in hotels and spending FEMA money. And, their friends here are complaining. IT'S NEVER ENOUGH WHEN THEIR HANDS ARE OUT. Kind regards!

I saw the sign that they can pay $5 for a shower. What a shame!

THIS IS INDEED A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS.
This type of maladminitration seems to be the trademark of most governments.
They boast about things getting better when in fact it is no thanks to them.

I believe "Placido Domingo" is singing at a charity concert in N,O, soon. Support is welcome, funds are for the needy in your city.

unbelievable!
A shame that the GOLDEN GLOBES gets all that attention and this gets none to little.

This is certainly not something many people see. It should be on the front page of every paper in the country. If more people saw this maybe they would stop voting against their best interests for a government interested only in enriching itself.

The insanity of it all.

The conditions are really outrageous. I was there a few days ago and was shocked though I had seen it several times already.
