The Camellia Grill

Carrollton Avenue

A popular uptown eatery, this is a favorite of the college crowd and tourists as well as locals. It is a place where, after a fancy night on the town, you could stop and enjoy an early breakfast. Known for its great omelets and hamburgers it is a fixture in New Orleans. It sits at the end of Carrolton Avenue as it makes the turn onto St.Charles Avenue.
It suffered water damage in Katrina but suffered greatly from the looting that occurred. As of January 8 it remains closed.
There are thousands of businesses just like this all over New Orleans that may never reopen. Where do you begin when 80 per cent of the City is destroyed by water.

Ate there early summer of 2007 with a former New Orleanian coming to visit his old city. They did a great job of getting it back open. Still not too many places were open to eat. I'm glad I remembered The Camellia Grill.

So very sad. There are thousands of places like this which we may never see again. I'll miss seeing those omelettes with everything on them...can't remember what they're called.

It sounds like a graet place; what a shame it's suffered so ~ as so many have..
Perhaps the community can get together to help in the re-opening of such a familiar face ~

Looks like it was a great loss to the area...so many have lost so much.

Let's hope that it won't be long before its return.
