Anything But Green Greenhouse

New Orleans City Park

One of New Orleans City Park's greenhouses where volunteers once rooted cuttings of plants from the Botanical Garden and later had plant sales to raise money for the Garden. I have attended many Saturday morning sales here. There were more greenhouses on this site but they must have floated away or were blown away by Katrina.
This area was 20 feet under water for at least two weeks. About 80 per cent of New Orleans looks like this. Someone had just finished cooking his lunch in the foreground where a small fire is still smouldering.
Anyone wishing to donate to the rebuilding and restoring of the Botanical Garden in City Park will be greatly appreciated. I was told last night that the first efforts at City Park is the refurbishing and restoring of the Garden. The old saying "Man does not live by bread alone" certainly applies here.

It's hard to escape the realization of Katrina with shots like this.

This looks so sad and empty. I look forward to seeing it green and growing again.

Can't even begin to imagine 20 feet of water. I'm more incredulous with each image, Coleen.

Like you we made this round many times. It does look salvageable though.

greenhouses floated away, and they got lots more in exchange! devastating

And, might I add that the inside of my house doesn't look too much better than this.

Difficult to comment, with so much that needs to be done.
Every time I read a paper or listen to news, there is a disaster somewhere.

A graphic image that speaks loudly of the present while your comments tell us of the past. Well done!

What a shame. I imagine it will be many years before all is cleaned up and restored. And I imagine there is more than one person with no place to cook his lunch.
