Street In the Vieux Carre' (French Quarter) in New Orleans - A City on Lockdown

New Orleans, Louisiana

This area is the original city of New Orleans on high ground near the Mississippi River, and it escaped the flood waters. The biggest problem here was the looting and firing of guns and no electricity, thus no night lights or airconditioning.
I took this on Monday when I had a pass to get into the City. Though sad, it is nice to see the street without mobs of people on it, just for a little while. This area was built in the early 1700's.
The Mayor of New Orleans is gradually opening up parts of the City for residents to return. Perhaps this area will be opened next week.

I have not had the pleasure of a visit in years, but, of course, never saw it empty. It will soon be thriving again....So glad the Vieux Carre was spared the devastation.

It doesn't look too bad. Slowly but surely things are getting better.

Hard to believe anything terrible happened when you see this.

Reminds me of Dylans Talking world war three blues :- ' You can be in my dream if I can be in yours'

Looks like it's back to normal, except for the lack of people.

It is looking just like a quiet, quaint, street... come back life!

It doesn't look as badly damage as I would have thought. That may be just an illusion though. However, at least I know now it can be recovered and rebuilt. And that is great news.

Looks rather eery with nobody about.
These pictures will seem unbelievable in a few years time.

It reminds me of a science fiction novel. You wake up to find the town deserted. Maybe you have been asleep for years and are the last person left, the grass growing through the pavement adds to this feeling. Quite eerie.

I saw a segment on the news this morning about one of the bars openning last night to entertain the workers. The life of the "quarter" is returning! I wish I could travel there now to help you in your recovery.

It is amazing to see this so empty.
