Only One Swan Remains

New Orleans City Park

I have been searching for the swans and the five cygnets. So far the only swan that has been found is this two year old who always lived in the area of the Museum in the background. She has a sister but I have not found her. She was hesitant to come near but eventually did come closer to get some of the bread and corn that I put for her. Hopefully, the others will return soon. I have looked in every nook and cranny of the Park and since there is no one allowed in this section of New Orleans there is no one who would be feeding them.
It was about 100 degrees with high humidity and the stench of rotting vegetation from the flood waters that sat here for several weeks was almost unbearable. The only way to get a good deep breath was to cover ones mouth and nose with a wet towel and take a deep breath, then take shallow breaths thereafter and repeat performance.

It's a tough life in nature. In the lake behind where I live there are 2 babies left but the parents seem to have disappeared. Dunno how they are going survive the winter.

Excellent sp and composition. I hope all the birds return.

I prayed for you and your family during this trying time. I volunteered to come down on a plane to help out, but I didn't get called. (I'm a nurse as well as a photographer.) I love your images. I hope your other swans return soon.

This is quite a poignant image.

I'm certain that you're friends will return in due time. Good things happen to good people!

Hmmmm... I agree, this is a bit sad. I too hope your friends return but I am thinking that they are probably safe somewhere. Or at least I am hoping that's the case.

Coleen, I hope the swan found another good place or coming back. Glad to see you!

I agree with Gayle . . I think they are just hiding . . .in a reclusive way until things calm down. I DO hope the babies are OK. Did you use a tripod for this?? It's a good composition of you & the swan.

such a lonely swan. the lack of other wildfowl is noticable too. I hope they have gone off to find food of their own, and have been successful

With people like you out there I am sure they will come back

Hope they return soon. They add to the park.

I also have my fingers crossed that you find the rest!!

I'm betting they come back once people are around again. (Crossing fingers with you) This is lovely, though a little forlorn without your friends.

Collen, I am so sorry that you have not found the swans. I am hoping that they are still there somewhere.

I'm glad you are taking care of her. She may be the only one left, but I pray not. Nice reflection in the water. Looks like it was a nice day there.
Nice SP too.

This is a nice photo, though really sad. I think the swans are in a quiet area of the park.

Good to see at least one of them still around. Were the swan's wings clipped or could they fly? They might have gone to where there is more food.
