Total Serenity

New Orleans City Park

You may remember a Mardi Gras photo several PaDers took on this bridge.
I am sitting here in a moment of indecision. For years when hurricanes approached I did not have a decision to make because law enforcement personnel stayed on duty for the duration of the storm. Last year I left Metairie and went to the house in Montz, farther west and away from Lake Pontchartrain. The Emergency Management people have already ordered a voluntary evacuation. The weather people say at this moment they predict the storm will go to the Mobile, Alabama area. However, there is always a chance it will turn towards us. The Nursing Home has called for people to come and get their relatives.
Karen Steubing told me this morning "Follow the swans." Good idea. It would also be a good title for the book that I've been writing for the past 30 years.

Follow the Swans
No matter which side this little boy looked from, the swans were out of his vision.

Beautiful! I missed this one, this week! The mirror image is so good, you could have almost turned the picture upside down and gotten away with it! :)

Nice shot - such a beautiful place.
Karen Stuebing09-Jul-2005 10:46
The reflection forms a keyhole through which we can peek at the calm waters. I hope yours remain still and the storm bypasses you. Remember, the weather forecasters are never right. This GMV too.

Serene indeed. No hint of what might be coming. I bet this bridge has seen about the worst you can get.
CJ Burianek09-Jul-2005 00:03
Beautiful calm shot Coleen!
Horrible decision to make though! I certainly hope whoever eventually gets hit by Dennis weathers it well... Stay SAFE!

Coleen, going will not alter the outcome, but staying may. I hope for everyones sake the worst is not realised. Remember,,safety first.
petesie08-Jul-2005 19:47
What a dilemma. Do you need to look at this photo as the calm before the storm. Just stay safe, whatever you do. This is absolutely beautiful.
John Lester08-Jul-2005 19:43
Excellent. Funny things about storms and location. We want it to go to you and you want it to visit us. We would all like for it to disappear but they don't do that much. Stay dry.

Beautiful composition, is this what they mean by the calm before the storm?

Jim Worlding08-Jul-2005 14:53
Very nice shot, you could get a little boy to go fishing with a thin tree baranch, take the shot in B/W and that would be cool.
As for your moment of indecision beter safe than sorry.
J. Scott Coile08-Jul-2005 14:44
You need to start a "bridges" gallery. Another beauty. Such a glassy reflection.
