Tall Ship "Dewaruci" Leaves New Orleans

New Orleans- from the levee at Holy Cross

High, cold winds prevented the tall ships from unfurling their sails with sailors on the yardarms as they left New Orleans this morning. You can see some of the sailors hanging on the yardarms of this ship from Indonesia.
As I waited on the levee with the winds blowing me around, I so hoped they would be able to go out in full glory. I am still trying to warm up from those two hours in the cold wind.

And we don't think the winds will subside soon, we have had 20-30 mph winds up here all day long Beautiful shot

I do believe it was 150 years ago today that Adm Farragut fought his way up to New Orleans.

Lovely and dramatic capture Colleen. Seeing those men so high up in the yardarms is amazing. Tricky business to say the least. Vote.

She's a beauty, but it would have been neat to see the sails.

Is this a strange late April. Coldish in SW Florida also.

The rigging is so elaborate I think this really works too. Can you imagine climbing one of those rope ladders? Super capture of this large sailing ship.

That would have been a fabulous shot with the sails down - too bad but this is still nice.

We have all had some disappointments with weather conditions but you got an excellent photo!

Too bad she couldn't leave under full sail, but you got a fine photo of her in all her majesty... love all the little flags, which would be obscurred by sails! V

Those ships had such a special beauty lacking in the modern.
