Always have your camera ready

This is the silhouette of Scott Schexnaydre, PBaser.
I am looking forward to photographing a performance in the St. Louis Cathedral on Sunday by the U. S. Marine Corps Band to celebrate the rebirth of New Orleans on the 4 year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. When I think about the terror we were in four years ago at this time, I wonder how we are all still sane. And, sometimes I wonder about that, also.
But, we survived and I thank God for that. All of our family members survived and we each have our own "Katrina" story to tell, with the top of the list being my sister Anna Belle's story that put her on CNN. She is now 87 and stalwart as ever. My four children and my nieces and nephews, grand and great, singularly and collectively, have accomplished much since Katrina and have helped others less fortunate.
It was a learning experience, one we could have done without, but I believe family-wise we scored well.
And, I was glad I had my camera ready to document so much of it. I left out a lot but it does get old. We still have crappy City leadership or no leadership at all. A new Mayor's race is in February and perhaps my camera can take a photo of a new face, a face with no hidden agendas. When the current Mayor goes, the police chief goes with him, and that, too, will be a rebirth.
Four years later I can say with a happy heart "Thank you, God, for sparing us and our extended family and bless all our friends who you took to be with you."

Helluva learning experience, part catastrophe from nature and part calamity caused by human hand... hopefully some good will come from it. Have faith.

Beautiful photo! I hope there's change for the better in leadership for the city. How's the governor doing?

A superb picture.
Your documentory photography served you well through Katrina.
It's time an illustrated book was published for the education of future generations.

Great silhouette of Scott against a gorgeous sunset!
I am thankful that you chose to document and share your experiences from Katrina with us. Hopefully I will never have to live through such an event!

Wonderful set up. I love the sunset and I really love how the water runs into those crevises. Great Silhouette. V

Your journalistic reports that first year & your daily images are something I will never forget...I still go look at them from time to time but even as good as they are, I think you would have to be there to fully realise the heartache & hardship you all suffered.

May the commemoration of Katrina be the only one to ever be celebrated in Louisiana...

Fantastic shot of Scott against that beautiful background. I can't believe it has been 4 years already. I pray everyday for your city and all those who lost loved ones and those who endured the tragedy. Of course you are on top of the list. Hope you are feeling better!
