Bocage During Restoration

Louisiana

Bocage, on the east side of the Mississippi River and a short distance from Houmas House Plantation and L'Hermitage, was built in 1801 as a wedding gift from her father to Francoise Bringier and her husband, Cristophe Colomb. At the time Francoise was 14 years old and Cristophe was 31. However, history records that Francoise tended to the important matters of running the plantation while Cristophe enjoyed his artistic endeavors.
Notice the small structure on the right side of the photo, truly historical in itself.
Hurricane Gustav in August, 2008 did significant damage to the trees.

I am the owner of Bocage. The stairs here are the beginning of the restoration of the original stairs. We needed to let the treated lumber weather before we completed the remainder. We are in the process of restoration of the entire structure, and will be updating the grounds as well. Bocage is open on a limited basis now, with the final paint and fit and finish as well as landscape changes to be made in early 2009. Please visit www.lebocage.com for updates.
