Home Place Plantation House

Hahnville, Louisiana

Built in the 1790's this French Colonial raised cottage is of West Indies construction. It is a National Historic Landmark, though has seen better days. It is located in St. Charles Parish in the parish (county) seat of Hahnville, Louisiana.
Previous owners include the early settlers to the Louisiana German Coast--the LaBranche family (Zweig turned French by the French priests) and the Fortier and Gaillaird families.
It has been owned by the Keller family since 1885.
The crops raised here were Indigo and Sugar Cane.

Back in 1997 I think it was I stopped to look around.I was riding my old Harley Lowrider and all leathered up due to it still being cool. It was a beautiful sunny day but still kind of spooky. At that time the stairs were located in the center of the house. I walked up to the veranda and around the back. Once I reached the back I passed under an opening in the porch cealing. Suddenly a flock of pigeons flew out of the opening. By the time I stopped running I was back on the grounds kick starting mt little scooter. Some bad biker dude I was.
