Note the crepe paper like appearance of the petals which has resulted in the name, "crepe myrtle".
The spelling "Crape Myrtle" is also commonly found. The scientific name is lagerstroemia crape myrtle.
This specimen is found near the Hilo airport post office. A beautiful collection can also be found at the Foster Botanical Garden in Honolulu.
