You can find recipes for this in both Chinese and Japanese Cookbooks. In Japan it is found primarily in southern Japan in Okinawa prefecture where it is very popular. Immigrants from these two countries have spread it across the globe. In the West Indies especially in Jamaica a tea is brewed from the leaves and vine and like many other similar folk medicines is thought to have benefits for those stricken with diabetic conditions. I am not aware of any medical studies confirming this effect.
