This wye track is used to turn the whole train for return to Durango. It is single track at each end, so trains have to wait for the incoming/outgong trains to clear before they can pull out and back down to the loading location in Silverton. The tail track of the wye was originally the main line of the Silverton Railroad going out of Silverton toward the mines it served.
