COOL! I used to use these tools to draw automobile accident scenes to scale. Nicely laid out here.

From the thumb I thought it was one of those earthquake measuring devices...but I WOULD think that!

As for the photo, that gives me horrid memories of Technical Drawing at school, but otherwise very good.
