They could have made these electricity meters more difficult to read if they had thrown in a few Roman numerals!!

They are annoying, aren't they?!

Eric, I did exactly the same thing years ago when I got my Practica with a built in meter.
I think it was a Weston Master 5. I thought I wouldn't need it!!!

Wow, a Weston meter, I thought they only made camera light meters. I once traded one in (light meter, not...) for a few quid when buying a new camera and then found out they were highly collectable and worth more than I'd paid originally.
I don't think the same applies to electricity meters.

I think the guys that read those must be trained to have pretty sharp eyes. My guy drives by and reads it in about 1 sec! Interesting shot.

If each hand is on the end of a shaft that has cogs that mesh with the next shaft then the hands will turn in alternate directions.
Ray, you have made me want to go and prise it open to find out!!

So, does anyone know why all the dials read clockwise, then anti-clockwise?

Yes, very creative. And I can tell you are leaving your computer on too much. LOL ;-)

Very creative... I would have never thought to shoot my meters.
