12-FEB-2004 Chris Brooker

12th February 2004

I wonder what the Time is?

This is at Canary Wharf in the east end of London.
The building in the background is the tallest in London being about fifty stories high.
Later I was stopped by a security guard who asked to see my photography permit.
I was standing on the pavement by a bus stop but he said it was private property.
Don't you just love Big Business!!!

Absolutely hilarious!!!! I love it! I'm sort of relieved you posed this. For his sake. He really went along with this too. His expression is is perfect.

I've had a brush with security too. After having taken several photographs over a few days while standing on the property of the Thurgood Marshall Federal Judiciary Building I was stopped while trying to photograph yet another object off of the property--Union Staion. The security guard informed me that it was against the law to take pictures while standing on "federal" property. It didn't matter that I was taking them of something NOT ON federal property. I had to cross the street, not just step into it, before I was permitted to take my photo, which no longer worked as I was too close. The "rules" and laws are just ridiculous. I expect to be stopped again. Funny thing is I took a photo of the building while on the property the week before, without incident. I think security cameras picked me up and the guards were told to put a stop to it. Absurd!!

Thank you all very much.
As you know, it is very nice when something you have planned comes off.
OK Paul I shall remember that for the future!!!

I love this picture! First you notice all the clocks and wonder why any place would have so many clocks (apparently all synchronized to each other since they're all the same to the second) and then as you continue to look you notice a man checking to see what time it is by looking at his watch in the middle of ALL THESE CLOCKS! Quite funny. :) Photography permit, who do they think they are asking YOU that? Just look at the guy and say "Do you know who I am? I'm the famous Chris Brooker!"

Seems that you were lucky to catch this one! Well done for digging in your heels abd taking shots, anyway!

I went here having planned what I wanted to do.
I stood looking at passers-by for a likely candidate to help me.
This kind chap came up and talked to me about photography, so I asked him to help.

Very funny, This can be an advertisement for watches. "...I still trust my watch even thousand of clocks are standing around me..." :)

Super, Chris! It looks as though you set the stage for this - I love all the clocks and the gentleman looking at his watch. :)

What a great photo! That security guard cracks me up. Too bad you didn't take his picture as he was harrassing you at the bus stop. A few weeks ago, I wanted to take a picture of a railroad bridge on a foggy day. I parked in what I thought was a public parking lot and when I got out of my car and started walking towards the bridge with my camera, a security guard for Wacker Siltronics yelled at me that I couldn't have a camera on private property. When she explained that the parking lot and the park next to it and the bridge was private property, I got back into my car, drove across the street, parked and walked down the public street over to the bridge and down to the beach. While I was on the beach shooting the bridge, I took a couple of shots of Wacker's toxic wastes dumping into the Willamette River! 8-0

Concerning the photograph...your timing was perfect. The photograph almost has a surreal quality to it.

Now as for Big Brother tell them where to stick it and then run! ;
It would seem the norm these days..it is happening everywhere even at old run down buildings.

This is TOOO funny! This is one of those shots that I'd be DYING to get home to make sure it was as funny as I thought!! Good for you! And tell that guard to piss off!

Just terrific! And am glad you got the guard off your back. I've just told Floradoragirl what I thought of these Jobsworths!
