Interurban Struggle

Vancouver, BC

I think the title says most of it… another brand new luxury condo (Luxury is an assumption on my part) going up on Main Street. This one is remarkable due to the old building left standing beside it, which is an old hotel with Single Room Occupancy. I am not sure if the city in its development wisdom has been forced to leave the place standing, or if it was to appease the angry protests on social housing - or most likely to be demolished in short order when no one is looking.

2 Doors down is a fire hall which is kept more busy with fentanyl overdoses than anything else. Maybe the old rooming house will mysteriously catch fire late one night - and that would be handy to make sure no damage to the new construction. Across the street is some sort of government centre, either for employment or welfare.

Yes, forced gentrification of the Downtown Eastside.

A sea of reinforcing rod in a grim neighborhood. I wonder how it will play out. You could have a pbase gallery on the construction of it and show us the old building as they now look
